the pyramids as dimension stone, A. Jonathan Buhalis
DIMENSION STONE
by Jonathan Buhalis

Dimension stone is any stone that is quarried in specific sizes and shapes. Durability, color, and texture may also be important. Blocks and slabs of dimension stone are used in the construction of buildings, walls, and walkways.

Several kinds of materials are used as dimension stone. In 2014 in the US, the largest fraction was limestone, followed by granite and sandstone . The US is also the largest world market for these building materials, amounting to over $2 billion annually.

Dimension stone may be put to mundane uses, but it can be very pretty. Marble and alabaster (gypsum) are used in artwork, including the faces of buildings.
